Movie Review: Atonement
Title: Atonement
Genre: Drama/Romance
Rating: R
Starring: Kiera Knightley, James McAvoy
I give this movie eight out of ten stars
Thirteen year old Briony Tallis keeps seeing things she shouldn't. To make it worse, she thinks she knows whats going on but she really doesn't, eventually leading to her testifying against her sister's love, Robbie Turner. Thanks to her, he goes to prison for a crime he does not commit. In prison he has a choice to join the army or stay in prison so he picks the army and goes off to fight.
At first this movie was a little confusing but everything was revealed in the end. The story ends up being told from the viewpoint of an older Briony, years later and still regretful of the mistakes she made.
I thought it was a rather creative way of telling the story. In the special features they explain how it was difficult to get across the important points in the book. There were some gory war scenes but nothing too terribly disturbing. Its not the typical "happily ever after" kind of story, and the ending is actually kind of sad but it was still really good.
