Caaaarving

Today I walked out the door and the first thing I did was slip and fall on some ice. Smooth. The snow was kind of weird today, at the bottom and tops of the slopes it was like sand almost. It was bizarre. But the slopes were still pretty good today, just fast enough but not completely ice. We went down a couple times before we had a lesson at 11:30.

The instructor was nice, he said he didnt know if we'd get our sticker that day... not to discourage us but he just didn't want to give us false hope... and I was okay with that. To get the next sticker, which is blue four, we have to be able to do J-turns, fakie. Meaning with our opposite foot forward. So Jake and I figured it out relatively quickly. The instructor had to keep reminding me to be patient and wait for my board so I worked on that. We got it eventually. Timmy had a little trouble. Then after we mastered the fakie stuff, we had to work on carving. He said it was kind of hard and thats why we might not get our sticker that day... he told us to try it and so we did. Then at the bottom of the hill he said "You guys were carving!" he was pretty surprised. So we got our sticker, except Timmy. He was having a bad day and not quite getting the J-turns down... the guy did some one on one with him while Jake and I practiced a little bit.

So then we went out on our own... the snow was falling and it hurt a lot, like little tiny grains of ice, so that was pretty painful. I also managed to get the rail almost every time i went for it... I just have to work on not falling at the end. I also managed to go over the jump but I kept falling too. So... we have to work on our fakie stuff and I want to work on not falling off the rails or the jump.

The guy was impressed that it was our first season snowboarding and we had as many stickers as we did so that was kind of cool. I have noticed I havent been falling as much and Im more comfortable going fast so... Im up for one more friday of cold weather, at least... :P Then it can start warming up...

My brother snowboards but I am the klutziest person I know and have never tried. I think I'd have to have a medic on hand. It's cool that you are learning how though. Of course it doesn't help I moved away from snow years ago!
